Thanks all for your help re: my last e-mail. I've dived in again and am
determined to get the Tomos working well. So far I've readjusted the point
gap to around .040-mm; it was too tight. Also, I've pulled off the ignition
coil to get resistance readings; the primary coil gives about 1.0-ohm; the
secondary coil gives 8.56-kohms. Are these within spec? (if anyone has a
reference). Also, the plug cap obviously has a capacitor in it due to the
building resistance as I hold my leads on either end of it (removed from the
coil of course). I cannot tell if the ignition capacitor (condensor) is
good, but it does charge and discharge as I try to get resistance readings.
The exhaust is dirty inside but not blocked and I'll clean it as best I can.
The exhaust pipe is one piece and I cannot remove the element without cutting
the pipe in half!! (I won't do that). What type of oil is recommended by
the purists out there?
Compression is undetermined because I misplaced my compression gauge. I did
however, have the cylinder bored and a new piston fitted not long ago and
haven't really ridden the vehicle since becasue of these other niggling
problems. I can feel compression, but believe that the reed valve prevents
the type of definite compression seen in, say, automobile engines, because
the back pressure closes the reeds, etc.
Again, I appreciate any help or advice. This is the last try though, and the
moped goes on the auction block fixed or not.
Cheers,
Don Lewis
