That's why these mopeds had pedals, to help them up hill.
Puch sold a manual shifted two-speed for people in mountain lands in the 80's.

The Puch is very robust indeed, make no mistake about that. I think when it
comes to longivety, it will be beter then the Yamaha. The engine layout is
just a bit old-fashioned, but of very fine Austrian craftsmanship...
If you have to battle with that hill every day, buy yourself a moped or
scooter with a variomatic clutch (Honda express or Honda PA50)
