In reference to your Tomos A3 motor breaking the new piston rings after you installed a new piston and rings: There are slight manufacturing tolerance differences in pistons and cylinders. Also when your cylinder is worn it may not wear perfectly evenly. Its best to send the cylinder to where ever you ordered the piston from. The piston and cylinder tolerances can be checked and also the cylinder can be honed which will put a brand new crosshatch finish inside the cylinder. This will provide longevity, maximum compression and faster break in of the piston and cylinder. Remember when ridding your moped the piston rings are passing up and down the cylinder at 3000 to 6000 times per minute at a high temperature. Just a thin oil film keeps them from scraping the walls of the cylinder. When the cylinder is honed the cross hatch pattern helps hold the critical lubrication in the cylinder walls. If your cylinder is in reasonable condition the average cost of piston and cylinder evaluation and honing is generally less than a set of piston rings. It is also very important to take a needle nose pliers and spin the wrist pin clips after installation to make sure they are seated. Never reuse the wrist pin retaining clips. They are tiny spring C clips on the Tomos and should only be used once. For under a dollar its not worth the chance on having one come out and ruin your mopeds top end.
